I praised the ladies from Scratch Nail and Beauty Salon after they raised £1580 in aid of the Guide Dogs charity by walking a half marathon.
Me and my dog Sid joined the team in Mary Stevens Park on Saturday for the last mile of the trek from Stourport-on-Severn that took five hours. Chantal Welvaert, the salon owner, and eight staff members made the walk along the canals.
Every year the salon based in Hagley Road, Oldswinford, raises money for charity and this year chose the Guide Dogs charity as it is close to their hearts. One of the staff members, Elise Richards’ step-son Luca Rojas-Alvarez, 15, is registered blind and he joined them too on the last mile.
Following the finish, everyone walked up to the salon together and there was a guide dog there to meet Luca, as he will soon be needing one for himself.
The Guide Dog Charity volunteer, Carol Evans, then gave Luca a quick lesson on how to walk with a guide dog and what signs and signals to use.
Congratulations to the Scratch Nails team for a wonderful effort in aid of a brilliant cause.
I was honoured to join them for the final mile and to meet Luca and his family who will benefit from the charity’s work in the future.
