Today I answered questions from Year 3 pupils at Cradley C of E Primary School about the environment and climate change. They asked some brilliant questions about how we can encourage recycling, what the Government and I are doing to tackle climate change, and what more the pupils and school can do to become even more eco-friendly.
Following the Q&A, I met with the junior leadership team from Years 5 and 6, who told me that the school is charged for recycling collections and said this hinders its ability to recycle more and tackle climate change. I have wrote to Dudley Council about this and I have been informed that they are currently reviewing their Waste Strategy. I will monitor further developments closely and I look forward to reading the outcome of this review.
The Government is undertaking a great deal of work to ensure it keeps its commitment to make the UK net carbon neutral by 2050, such as developing renewable energy, banning petrol and diesel cars later in this decade, and tackling energy consumption and pollution.
I was impressed with the pupils’ commitment to helping the environment. This showed real maturity and a desire to play an important part in limiting climate change.
Many thanks to the school for inviting me. I hope to return and see what the pupils have done.
