Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb has nominated a Wollaston landlady for the prestigious PubAid Community Pub Hero award that recognises those who helped their communities during the pandemic.
Lisa Sutherland, who runs the Britannia Sports Bar in the village, has been singled out for her work since March helping the NHS and local people.
Lisa has sewn and distributed 1,000 wash bags to help care and hospital workers on the coronavirus frontline wash their uniforms safely.
She has also cooked and distributed meals to those less fortunate and turned the outside of the pub into a shrine to NHS workers.
“Lisa deserves recognition, not just for her brilliant efforts during the Covid emergency, but also because she is a true community champion who has worked to help others in the past,” said Suzanne.
“She has hosted many fundraisers to support local charities – including raising more than £1,000 to Brierley Hill Babybank that helps young parents, care leavers, victims of domestic abuse, and working parents.
“I really do think she deserves our thanks and this nomination and I hope she makes the final shortlist and is announced the worthy winner.”
The award is sponsored by alcohol wholesaler Matthew Clark and runs in conjunction with the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group.
Closing date for nominations to 30th November. The eight finalists will be invited, with their MP, to a reception in London early next year, where they will be presented with a certificate before the announcement of the overall winner.
