I said goodbye to one of Lye’s longest serving Christian leaders at the weekend when Simon Falshaw conducted his last service after Christ Church in the town.
Simon was priest in charge and has been at the church in the High Street for 20 years.
His final well attended service in the morning was followed by a lovely buffet meal, with Indian food, pizza, chips as well as some lovely desserts.
I was there with local councillor Dave Borley and I presented Simon and his wife Sue with House of Commons mugs each saying Honourable Gentleman and Honourable Lady as a goodbye present.
Simon has been a reassuring presence in Lye for two decades and I know the community is very sorry to see him go.
He has touched the lives of many people over the years and he is a popular and respected figure – very much highlighted by the packed church on Sunday for his final service.
Myself and Dave wish him and his wife the very best in their new endeavours. I hope they come back to visit soon.
