At the weekend the community took the biggest step so far on the road to recovery, with restaurants, hairdressers, hotels and pubs opening their doors for the first time in three months. Suzanne Webb MP took the opportunity to visit several hospitality businesses across the constituency from Lye to Wollaston.
Suzanne commented “Many business owners and employees have put in a heroic effort to prepare their venues to reopen in a way that keeps their customers safe. This weekend it was fantastic to be out and about in the community, meeting landlords across Stourbridge who have worked so hard to get their businesses open again. I know that many people I spoke to had been anxious about visiting some of the venues that are opening for the first time since March, however, they all saw first-hand the work and commitment being put in to keep customers safe.”
“There is still a long way to go in our recovery from COVID-19 with many pubs and restaurants still not re opening. The recent spike in admissions for Covid-19 and those tested positive in Leicester, has shown that the virus is still with us. If there is any risk to the spread of the virus the Government will not hesitate to re-impose localised lockdown restrictions.”
Suzanne continued “As we carefully reopen more parts of our economy, I urge everyone to act responsibly, so that we do not waste the progress we have made so far. There is still a long way to go in our recovery from COVID-19. At the centre of this will be supporting our local economy and small businesses, but I am confident that we can do so in a safe way and I hope many local people will see their efforts and feel comfortable in supporting these businesses in the coming weeks and months.”
