I met with the Mary Stevens Hospice’s CEO Claire Towns at the hospice in Oldswinford and I promised her that I will raise concerns about funding pressures for the sector in Parliament.
We discussed funding pressures, growing running costs, fundraising, how certain minority groups are less likely to use its services and how we can best work together to help the hospice.
I then had a tour that included the fundraising office and some of the care facilities. I also had the chance to chat with nurses and the fundraising staff.
Mary Stevens Hospice is a much-loved charity right in the heart of Stourbridge and I am committed to doing all I can to support it during these challenging times.
We need to work together to ensure Mary Stevens deals with the pressures it faces and then moves on to continue to prosper and reach out to the whole community. The work it does is amazing.
I have made a promise to raise the issues we discussed in parliament and with the government. It is important we raise awareness of the difficulties facing the hospice both locally and on a national platform. I will meet with Claire again to discuss progress.
