I was given a personal tour of the refurbished Talbot Hotel ahead of its grand reopening at the end of July.
Manager Catherine Growcott kindly showed me around the 54-room hotel that dates back to the 17th century.
The upstairs bedrooms – that are all slightly different in shape and size due to the character of the building – have been finished as operators Westbourne Leisure put the finishing touches to the major investment.
Catherine told me that she is hoping the local landmark’s function rooms will be used for music, weddings and Christmas parties.
I am really pleased to see this substantial investment in one of Stourbridge’s iconic buildings is close to completion and The Talbot will soon be full of guests and visitors once again.
I was very impressed with the work that has been undertaken and I recognise this is a major investment in our town.
It is also the start of what I hope will be the regeneration of Stourbridge High Street using money from the West Midlands Mayor’s devolution deal and private investment like this.
We need to work with public and private money to improve Stourbridge and Lye. I am delighted Westbourne Leisure has given the town a vote of confidence in refurbishing The Talbot and I look forward to seeing it open in the next few weeks.
