Recently I visited Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School to speak to pupils and take part in a Q&A session.
I spoke to 45 children aged between 14-17 at an assembly at the school in Love Lane, talking about my experience of becoming an MP and my previous role in logistics.
I also discussed being the Parliamentary Private Secretary to former Prime Minister Liz Truss and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, as well as giving an overview of the typical day of an MP.
Questions from students and teachers were on a variety of topics including the new PM Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss’s premiership, equality, the legalisation of cannabis, immigration and the cost of living.
As always it was a pleasure to visit a school full of bright, interesting and inquisitive pupils,
I believe it is important young people learn about what their MP does and have the opportunity to question them too. This early engagement is vital for our democracy.
l thank the school for inviting me - I had a really good time.
