I have entered my cocker spaniel Sid into this year’s Westminster Dog of the Year competition.
Covid and the Queen’s death has thwarted Sid from entering in the past so it is third time lucky for him at the annual competition run by the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club.
Previous winners include Vivienne, who was owned by Southend West MP Sir David Amess, and she won following his murder in 2021.
The winner will be decided by a panel of judges but there is the ‘Sir David Amess Pawblic Vote Award’ category, that constituents can get involved in too and vote for Sid.
Many people know Sid as he is often out and about with me in Stourbridge in all weathers.
He is a little bit naughty and prone to a bit of howling at times but I think he’s Westminster Dog of the Year material because of his big personality. His entry form also has his paws all over it and it’s in the post now!
I hope people will get involved and vote for Sid. He will have his canine CV online and people will be able to vote there alongside links on my Facebook page when the competition goes live.
This year’s competition theme is focused around promoting responsible dog ownership to ensure that all dogs live happy and healthy lives.
Parliament’s Top Dog will be crowned on 14th September.
