I went to a 1940s themed pop-up cafe event at the Wollescote Park Sensory Garden in aid of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The spectacle was organised by the Friends of Wollescote Park to raise funds for the veterans’ charity ahead of Remembrance Sunday this week.
There was a brilliant live performance from the Lavender Girls as well as a fabulous selection of homemade cakes and bread and butter pudding.
Lots of people came out to support the event on Friday and many volunteers made a real effort to dress up in 1940s attire too.
As well as poppys on sale at the event, there were also poppy seeds from the park that people could take home to grow and I took home a pack.
Many congratulations to the Friends of Wollescote Park, and especially its chair Julia Marks, for a wonderful event in aid of an enduring cause that is close to the heart of so many in Britain.
This weekend we will pause and remember all those who have served and lost their lives in defence of our country in conflicts large and small in this century and the last.
But to help our veterans and their families, money is needed and this brilliant event that attracted so many has really helped this year’s Poppy Appeal. Well done and thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success and who came along to support it.
