I am delighted to back an initiative by my colleague Damien Moore MP and the Imperial War Museums (IWM) that seeks to support local war memorials in Stourbridge through the War Memorials Register.
War memorials across the UK play a central and important role in the heart of our communities in remembering those who served and tragically lost their lives in service of our country. They also offer a physical and significant space for families to remember and honour those who gave their lives, while also allowing a place to come together as a community.
The War Memorials Register aims to compile a record of all the UK's 96,000 war memorials into a freely-available resource. Sadly however, a lot of war memorials are not accounted for, hidden away in quiet parts of communities, or they have incomplete records. Recording our war memorials allows for them to be properly looked after.
That is why I encourage local residents to take part in this initiative and discover local war memorials across Stourbridge and submit photographs or details to the online register. You can find the register here.
