I am pleased that the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has outlined an additional £15 billion in support for households to help with the cost of living. This brings total government cost-of-living support to £37 billion this year and it recognises the acute pain many people in Stourbridge and across the West Midlands are dealing with as bills for everything soar.
Some of the measures announced include:
- Help with energy bills - doubling the energy rebate people will receive in October to £400.
- Help for vulnerable households - a £650 payment for those on means-tested benefits.
- Help for pensioners - a £300 payment for the eight million pensioners who receive the Winter Fuel Payment.
- Help for those with a disability - a £150 payment for the six million people who receive disability benefits.

The last few years have been unprecedented and I sincerely hope that these measures will lift some of the pressures that the country is facing as we navigate the global economic pressures of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Whilst it's not possible to solve every problem, our priority is to support the families who need it most. We have always said we stand by ready to do more.
