It was fantastic to visit both the Hinkley Point B and the under-construction Hinkley Point C nuclear power plants over the past couple of days to find out how important the project is to the West Midlands.
To date, £300 million has been injected into the region's economy through contracts with 228 companies - including three based right here in Stourbridge!
Upon completion, the £25 billion project will generate enough power to meet 7% of the country's energy needs. Nuclear power stations are crucial to the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy.
As well as generating clean energy and investment, the project by EDF is also supporting 22,000 jobs across the UK and West Midlands. It was great to meet with apprentices working on the project to find out more about the skills the plant is providing.
A big thank you to EDF and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy for allowing myself to visit.
