I warmly welcome the Government's plans to support millions more people into home ownership.
The measures announced today include:
- Extending the Right to Buy scheme to the two and a half million tenants currently renting their homes from housing associations.
- Pledge to build a new social home for every one sold.
- Commitment to building one million homes by the end of the current Parliament.
- Reviewing access to mortgage finance for first-time buyers so that they can get on the property ladder.
- Allowing the 1.5 million working people on Housing Benefit to use that money towards a mortgage.
- Making it easier for Universal Credit recipients to save for a deposit.
These measures will help working people and first-time buyers to get on the property ladder in an affordable and sustainable way.
