Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb launched a competition to find the town’s favourite takeaway in parliament today with an invite to the Prime Minister to come and sample a meal from the winning entry.
Speaking in parliament via Zoom, Suzanne, said: “Whilst hospitality has had to close their doors, in true Black Country spirit many of my venues have been truly entrepreneurial and now offer a great takeaway service.
“To celebrate this entrepreneurial spirit, I am launching a favourite takeaway competition in my constituency today.
“Will the Prime Minister join me in launching this competition and also in a takeaway from the winning entry when he’s next in wonderful Stourbridge, he’ll receive a warm welcome and I’m happy to throw in a trip on the country’s finest shuttle which I hope to soon see called the Stourbridge Dasher?”
In reply, Boris Johnson said: “I congratulate my honourable friend for what she is doing to champion takeaways in Stourbridge.
“I thank her very much for her initiative and I look forward to visiting the hospitality sector in her constituency as soon as possible.”
Suzanne wants local people to nominate their favourite takeaway in the Facebook poll that closes on 8th March.
During the pandemic, many establishments have continued to serve their customers and Suzanne said the competition was a way for her and the community to say thank you.
“This is a really good way for all of us to acknowledge that during these difficult times a little bit of normality has stayed with us when we’ve picked up the phone and ordered a takeaway delivered to our doors,” she said.
“It's a bit of fun for everyone to get involved with in lockdown but there’s also a serious message here that these businesses have really stepped up over the last 12 months.
“So, please go to the pinned post at the top of my Facebook page and get voting for your favourite takeaway.”
The top takeaway, or any other business that has offered takeaways during the pandemic, will be able to join Suzanne for lunch at the Palace of Westminster when restrictions allow.
