I continue to push to bring investment and regeneration to Lye. The area used to be, and should continue to be, a regional attraction for people to come and experience the various pubs and restaurants in the town. Local residents and businesses deserve better.
I teamed up with local residents, campaigners, and Andy Street, former Mayor of the West Midlands, to champion the cause of Lye and try to resolve the problems that have been raised with me since becoming your Member of Parliament. We will be campaigning for greater street cleaning, new CCTV cameras, investment and regeneration to build new homes and build stronger relationships in the community.
I am pleased that there has been real progress recently.
I have been involved in a campaign to provide more devolution and funding to the West Midlands, and I can proudly say that the Government has delivered on this. The West Midlands Devolution Deal, a groundbreaking first for our area, will mean local decision makers have a real say in investment decisions.
Our previous plan was ambitious for Lye and I have detailed some of those proposals below that I would like to see implemented from this new funding pot:
- Making Lye bypass two-way to reduce congestion on the High Street
- Improvements to junctions along the A4036 to improve traffic flow
- Better connectivity between the train station and the High Street
- New homes on four brownfield sites
- More footways and cycle routes
- Additional car parking provision
My vision is for Lye to be a place where people are proud to live, work, and visit and these truly transformative plans will begin to realise that vision.
In the long-term, I am confident that these plans will act as a catalyst to drive economic growth in the town and attract much-needed private investment.
Work has already begun, and I visited Lye with the then Housing and Planning Minister Rachel Maclean and Councillor Dave Borley for an update. Some of these major proposals include creating an urban village, more space for new industries, managing the best use of heritage assets, creating more green streets and spaces with the vision to make Lye an industrial garden town.
Redeeming Our Communities, a community engagement charity, is also hiring an action group leader for Lye who will be employed over the next three years to take forward the objectives
There is so much to be proud of in Lye. Together, we will work to make sure people know this and get better outcomes for Lye and it's people.
